$10,000 Goal

Downtown Dog Rescue was created in 1996 to support pets and their people. Because pets are part of all families, a lack resources, and the inability to pay for veterinary care should not prevent them from experiencing the love of pets, and enjoying their companionship. There is evidence suggesting that attachment to pets is good for human health and even helps build community. Therefore, we work towards a goal of supporting low income families with pets through assisting with the cost of veterinary care, free and low cost spay and neuter surgeries, free community pet vaccination clinics for both cats and dogs in collaboration with the Southern California Veterinary Association, as well as providing on site trauma informed pet counseling, six days a week at our Pet Support Space located in South Los Angeles.

In addition to serving the South Central and South East areas of Los Angeles, we collaborate with the Los Angeles County Health Department, Inner City Law Center, and Los Angeles Animal Services to provide resources and services for pets and people who live in the Skid Row area. In total, our community based programs assist more than 600 cats and dogs each month.  DDR owns and operates a kennel in South Gate that serves as an oasis for former shelter dogs to live and play until they find their forever families.
