Recovering at home

Barry is lucky. So many puppies die from parvovirus. They suffer and succumb to their symptoms, their little bodies worn out and unable to fight back. Barry is the exception.

Since our post last week, Barry has made some really promising strides. He has even been released from the hospital to continue his recovery in his foster home. We caught it early, responded vigorously, and now Barry has a chance at a full and happy life!

We don't always get the win--so we'll take the "W" while we can, grateful to see Barry back home where he belongs. With your help, we will pay his bill, and be just as ready to act and hopefully save another life when it's needed most.

Four-month-old Barry came to Homeward Trails over the weekend. He and his brother were surrendered. They hadn't done anything wrong--they just weren't wanted. Their whole word was turned upside-down, while the only family they had ever known left them behind.

Barry has been trying his best to settle into his foster home, but he has been having some distressing symptoms; he is lethargic, and refuses to eat.

Our team of seasoned rescuers knows all-too-well what these symptoms can mean, and what could be next if we don't act fast. We rushed Barry to the vet straight away. Our worst fears were confirmed early this morning--Barry has parvovirus.

Parvo kills puppies. The only real treatment is to provide supportive care for the symptoms we can manage, and hope their immune system can do the rest. We're hopeful--we caught it early and acted quickly. But Barry is going to need constant care if he is going to pull through!
