September Update

Update posted 3 years ago

Give during the Saving Pets Challenge in September and K-9 Lifesavers could win up to $50,000 in grants and prizes!

Your donation will make an incredible difference! Your amazing generosity from last week won a Bonus Challenge for us and $1,000 for our rescue!

These NINE dogs have all been diagnosed with heartworm disease. The cost of heartworm treatment, depending on the size of the dog, can be up to $1,500. We normally don't find out dogs are heartworm positive until they arrive. This month we have gotten hit hard with cases. Your continued donations will help us be prepared to pay the vet bills when this happens. And is just one more reason we need your help to win $50,000! Every donation gets us closer. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help with the heartworm treatment for these dogs!

We want to start by saying thank you to all for your support of our rescue. We honestly could not do this without good-hearted, doggie loving people like you!

That being said we are in dire straits. Our bank account is depleted. We are not like many other rescues. We do not pay a company to do fundraising. We do not get government grants. The grants offered from other resources go to the very small rescues or the larger ones to help with infrastructure. We don't have corporate donors to turn to.

However, we also do not have a paid director or any paid employees for that matter. Every single person in our rescue, from the founder, to adoption coordinators to the people who do administrative work are volunteers. We as a rescue believe every dollar donated should go to the care of our dogs.

And to be frank, when a tragedy like Ida hits our donations drop and go to the rescues that have resources to help rescue the hurricane dogs.

So we are again turning to you, our Lifesaver family. We are not just asking. We are literally begging for your help. Adoption fees normally help keep us going, but as we've previously told you adoptions are down everywhere. We are struggling. We haven't made our fundraising goals in the past couple of weeks which means we still owe on those vet bills in addition to what you will see below. We desperately need to get our account back in the black.

Will you please consider making a tax-deductible donation to help us continue our life saving efforts?

Dooney, Burke and Gloria all came to us from Georgia. They are all heartworm positive which requires an x-ray be done. When the x-rays were done we discovered not only are they heartworm positive but it seems someone was using them for target practice. All three of these poor babies had been shot! Dooney was shot twice and the vet was able to retrieve one of the bullets. The other bullet in Dooney and the ones in Gloria and Burke are to deep to chance removing them. Thankfully, we have these pups now and they are safe but we desperately need help with their vet bills.

Chessie may look super happy in this picture, but at the moment she is feeling miserable. She has pneumonia which can be scary and deadly for a pup her age.
