We've sort of stalled in our donations recently! I thought I would take this opportunity for a little bit of a flash back to our first foster.

From his first picture from the shelter, you knew Dublin was special. A young boy, injured and neglected but so sweet. He came to me because he had some sort of injury to his elbow that had obviously gone untreated for a long time. You would never know meeting him though, which seems to be the theme of my fosters in Rescue Pit. Even though he was the first foster puppy for both Adele and Dexter, he fit in and turned into the third Musketeer in a heart beat. I never would have guessed my couch could fit quite so much dog on it... but Dublin found a way.

Everyone knows Adele LOVES her foster babies and finds true joy in helping raise and rough house with our various fosters, but so far Adele hasn't loved another puppy like she loved Dublin. In fact, I was deeply tempted to keep Dublin purely because Adele loved him so much.

At first it was a hesitant love. Dublin was a puppy that wanted to not only be touching you, but would greatly prefer to lay bodily on top of you. If he could be connected to someone at all times he would have been the happiest puppy in the planet. I don't know if it was the time spent in the shelter with limited contact, but he couldn't get enough. Adele on the other hand, was never fond of other dogs touching her while resting, until Dublin.

At first it was, exasperated looks at me like, "Why does this kid always need to be touching me?" But unlike her normal response to another dog touching her when resting - get up immediately and forgo comfort to not be touching - she stayed frozen, like she knew Dublin needed her to be his comfort. It was honestly the sweetest thing to watch. And don't tell anyone, but she really grew to love their snuggle time.

We have still yet to have another foster who Adele has allowed to snuggle with her like Dublin did. She likes them all in their own ways, but I'm so glad we got the opportunity to foster Dublin so she could have such a special connection with a dog, even if he didn't find his forever here. I couldn't have asked for a better forever home for him than the one he found, and he loves his forever sister and mom! Donations to Rescue Pit not only allow us to continue to save dogs like Dublin, but it also lets us continue to have these heartwarming and inspiring experiences. Some of my best foster experiences have come during the hardest and most challenging times in my life, and it wouldn't have it any other way. Having a life to care for other than your own is so life affirming and can help to push away the stress of every day life. Please help by donating to Rescue Pit so Adele and I can have more "Dublin's" in our lives, and we can continue to help them go on to their loving forever families.

Rescue Pit has been an invaluable asset to the community since its inception, continuously growing to try to assist Rochester’s dogs and the people who love them in as many ways possible. Throughout the Challenge I will be highlighting the many ways Rescue Pit contributes to our area, as well as highlighting my personal fosters stories and some of the special stories we helped create. Join me in donating to keep Rescue Pit thriving.
